ULLIN, IL (June 27, 2023) – Starting July 1, 2023, the four extension centers at Shawnee Community College will have new names. Currently, the centers are named after the city they are located. The new name will include the county instead.
The changes look like this:
The Anna Extension Center is now the Union County Extension Center.
The Cairo Extension Center is now the Alexander County Extension Center.
The Metropolis Extension Center is now the Massac County Extension Center.
The Vienna Extension Center is now the Johnson County Extension Center.
“We want to be more inclusive in the counties we serve and let people all over each county know they are just as welcome at our centers as the people in the specific cities are. Programs will remain the same. All that is changing is the name,” said Shawnee Community College President Dr. Tim Taylor.
Signage for each center will soon be updated to reflect the new branding initiative. The name of Shawnee’s main campus will not be affected.
