Shawnee Community College to Celebrate Career and Technical Education with CTE Day

CTE Day

ULLIN, IL (February 13, 2024) –  February is Career and Technical Education Month. On Thursday, February 22, hundreds of high school students from around southern Illinois will visit Shawnee Community College for its annual CTE Day.

The day will include hands-on experiences facilitated by SCC faculty, students, and staff. Ninth and tenth graders will explore the many Career and Technical Education opportunities.

The morning session runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the afternoon session going from noon to 2 p.m. Students can choose three areas of interest to visit on campus.

“We are doing our CTE Day differently this year by targeting freshmen and sophomores in the area; we hope to introduce them to a career option they may not have previously considered and put them on a path earlier in their high school experience,” said Kristy Stephenson, Dean of Career and Technology at Shawnee Community College.

The following programs are scheduled to be a part of the day:

Agriculture
Allied Health and Nursing
Automotive Technology
Basic Heating & AC
Basic Residential Electricity
Computer Systems
Cosmetology
Criminal Justice
Science and Technology
Social Work
Truck Driving
Welding
