ANNA, IL (April 10, 2026) — Shawnee Community College officially celebrated the purchase of its Union County Extension Center in Anna on Friday morning, marking a significant investment in the institution’s long-term commitment to serving the region.
College leadership, board members, community leaders, and business partners gathered at the facility to commemorate the milestone, which strengthens the College’s presence in Union County and supports expanded access to education, workforce training, and community engagement.
The purchase of the facility reflects Shawnee Community College’s strategic focus on sustainability, growth, and responsiveness to regional needs. By securing ownership of the building, the College is better positioned to enhance programming, invest in infrastructure, and provide high-quality learning environments for students and community members.
“At its core, the Union County Extension Center is about access. Not abstract access, but real, practical access. Access to education that is closer to home. Access to training that leads somewhere. Access to training opportunity for individuals who may not have a clear path forward,” said Dr. Tim Taylor, Shawnee Community College President.
The Union County Extension Center plays a vital role in delivering career and technical education, health sciences programming, and community-based learning opportunities. The facility also supports partnerships with local schools, businesses, and organizations, helping to strengthen the workforce pipeline across the College’s five-county service area.
College officials expressed appreciation for the continued support from local stakeholders who attended the event and who play an important role in advancing the College’s mission.
“The real impact of this facility will be measured in the lives changed here, the students who walk through these doors, the careers that begin, and the communities that grow stronger as a result. We are proud of this investment. We are proud of Union County. And we are excited about what comes next,” said Andrea Witthoft, SCC Board of Trustees Co-Chairperson.
Shawnee Community College remains committed to empowering learners and enriching communities through accessible, high-quality education and training.
