ULLIN, IL (October 9, 2025) — Nearly 500 students from 12 area high schools visited Shawnee Community College today to take part in the College’s annual SCC Day, a campus-wide event designed to help juniors and seniors explore their academic and career possibilities.
SCC Day offers students a unique, hands-on experience to learn about the College’s diverse academic programs, career-training opportunities, and vibrant campus life. Throughout the day, students engaged with faculty, toured classrooms and labs, and participated in interactive demonstrations across multiple fields of study.
“This event gives high school students a chance to picture themselves as part of the Saints Family,” said Jeff McGoy, Vice President of Shawnee Community College. “They can meet instructors, discover programs that match their interests, and experience firsthand what makes Shawnee such a supportive and opportunity-rich environment.”
The event also gives students valuable insight into college life, including student organizations, athletics, and support services available to help them succeed. In many cases, SCC students provided instruction to the high school students during the event.
“We’re grateful to our students, faculty, and staff who made this day such a success,” said Student Engagement Coordinator Erin King. “It takes the entire college community to make an event of this size happen, and it’s one of the best ways we can connect future students with the opportunities waiting for them here.”
