ULLIN, IL (August 3, 2022) – The start of a new semester is right around the corner, and with changes coming on how the state of Illinois handles COVID-19 mitigations, leaders at Shawnee Community College are updating how the college will approach the situation for the fall semester. “We are excited to welcome students back to campus in a couple of weeks, but we’re also looking forward to hosting more events on our main campus and the four Extension Centers. That’s something we had to pause for the last couple of years,” said Shawnee Community College President Dr. Tim Taylor. ULLIN, IL (May 25, 2022)- Shawnee Community College would like to commend all of our Spring 2022 semester honors students for their hard work and dedication. Full-time students whose grade point average is 3.5 or better and who are enrolled in an Associate degree or certificate program are considered honor students. The President’s List consists of students achieving a 4.0-grade point average for the semester. Students on the Vice President’s List achieved a GPA between 3.5 and 3.9.
As the demand for safe truck drivers grows around the country, so is the truck driving program at Shawnee Community College. On Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at 9 a.m., officials from the College and the community will hold a ribbon-cutting and groundbreaking ceremony to expand the program, including CDL training, a new state-of-the-art simulator, classroom, and training range at the Metropolis Extension Center (5385 Industrial Park Dr, Metropolis, IL).
Commencement is right around the corner at Shawnee Community College, and one graduate will have something extra to celebrate this year. Jessica Cates will receive an Associate of Arts degree and an Associate of Science degree on May 13. Jessica received quite a surprise on Monday, May 2.
The holiday season is upon us, and you can put a little holiday cheer in your festivities by attending the SCC Music Department’s Breakfast with Santa on December 18th at Shawnee Community College’s main campus! Beginning at 9:00 a.m., attendees will have an opportunity to eat with Santa as they mingle with friends and family and other special guests, including Mrs. Claus and The Grinch. You can enjoy family-friendly activities, including a candy cane hunt, photo ops, and a spectacular time of spreading Christmas cheer!
A local diesel mechanic and business owner, Mr. Larry Cheek, was recently recognized for his dedication to SCC student success. The Shawnee Community College Truck Driving Program Coordinator Kelly Jennings presented a plaque to Mr. Larry Cheek of Ullin, Illinois, for 35 years of dedicated service to the SCC Truck Driving Program students. Mr. Cheek is the owner of Cheeko’s Truck Repair in Ullin and has provided for the service and maintenance of the program vehicles for over 35 years.
The agreement, called Saluki Step Ahead, offers SCC students who have entered into the agreement with SIU to receive automatic admission to SIU’s online accounting, business and administration, criminology and criminal justice, psychology, health care management and radiologic sciences programs.
Officer Eric Howard of the Shawnee Community College Criminal Justice Program recently announced the college is hosting Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Accident Reconstruction Specialist Sgt. Ronnie Stanton. The presentation is scheduled for September 22 at 10:00 am and will take place in the SCC Education Center located on the college’s main campus.
Shawnee Community College Baseball Coach Ken Reichert recently signed Jake Hyde to the Saints squad. Hyde, the son of Michael & Sonia Hyde of Woodlawn, joins the program with an impressive resume both academically and athletically. In 2021 he was named All-Conference “Player of the Year” in the Midland Trail Conference.
