Shawnee Community College is joining community colleges across Illinois this fall to help address food insecurity through the second annual Feed The Need Campus Food Drive. From October 15 through December 1, 2025, SCC will collect non-perishable food items on campus, with donations benefiting Bernie’s Place on main campus and the College’s extension centers.

Shawnee Community College (SCC) has been recognized by USA TODAY as one of America’s Top Vocational Schools for 2025, earning a five-star rating in the category Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Studies, and Humanities. The five-star distinction places SCC among a select group of institutions nationwide, and one of only three in Illinois, to receive USA TODAY’s highest mark.

Shawnee Community College will host a Digital Threat Assessment® (DTA) training on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the L Atrium of the main campus in Ullin, Illinois. The training, offered through the Illinois School and Campus Safety Program and the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board Executive Institute, is tuition-free and open to a wide range of school and community professionals.

Shawnee Community College (SCC) has been honored with the inaugural Excellence in Innovation Award for Career and Technical Education at the Illinois Community College Board’s annual Forum for Excellence event. The award recognizes outstanding achievement in the category of Career Technical and Adult Education: Building Pathways for All Students.

Shawnee Community College is proud to announce the appointment of Matthew White as the new head coach of the Saints baseball program. Coach White steps into the role following the retirement of longtime coach Ken Reichart, who dedicated years of service to the College and its student-athletes.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF) recently awarded Shawnee Community College a grant for $8,900 to support the Little Saints Book Club. The funds are a part of a record-setting, one-day donation in the Foundation’s history of more than $13.2 million to support adult, family, and summer literacy programs in the 48 states where Dollar General operates.

Shawnee Community College is thrilled to unveil its Summer 2025 Saints Kids Camps, offering diverse, engaging, and educational activities for youth across southern Illinois. These programs cater to children and teenagers and are designed to inspire creativity, promote physical activity, and introduce new skills.
