In collaboration with the Federal Highway Administration, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) initiated a Highway Construction Careers Training Program (HCCTP) in late 2009, in an effort to increase access to highway construction jobs for minorities, women and disadvantaged individuals.
Through a collaboration with John A. Logan College, Shawnee Community College is offering the HCCTP program at the Cairo Extension Center. The HCCTP program is 12 weeks long, and each training session consists of 450 hours of both classroom and hands-on instruction.
Students selected into the program will also receive a stipend to assist with living expenses during the course of the program. Successful candidates must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, possess a valid driver’s license, and consent to drug screening.
