EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Shawnee Community College (SCC) Technology Plan spans three fiscal years from 2023-2026. The scope of this document includes information regarding current technologies along with the institution’s plans relating to information technology systems. Within this plan, information is offered in the following four sections: Educational Technology, Network Infrastructure, Information Systems, and I.T Support
In addition, this plan assesses the college’s current technology environment and budget constraints and utilizes that information to plan for future information technology needs. The plan is specifically designed to promote and support the institution’s mission, goals, and purposes.
STRATEGIC PLANNING
The SCC Technology Plan is integrated into and supports the college’s strategic planning goal of ensuring institutional effectiveness through data-based evaluation and planning.

Educational Technology has 33 technology-enhanced classrooms at the SCC Main Campus, 13 at the Union County Extension Center, and 7 at the Massac County Extension Center. All classrooms have two monitors one of which is a touchscreen utilizing Epic Pen software, as well as a document camera connected to the computer at the instructor podium.
The rooms also have a student camera, instructor camera, and a whiteboard camera. Several rooms at Massac County have Sympodiums and will be upgraded at later dates. The Education Center, Founders’ Room, River Room, and SCC cafeteria have mounted projectors and computers.

HYBRID CLASSROOMS
KPI 15F, 16B, 16I, 18B
Before the events of 2020, Educational Technology experimented using ZOOM as a delivery method for courses. It was originally seen as a possible replacement for the Polycom system. It was determined at the time that there were too many logistic issues to accomplish this. Then 2020 happened. Most courses were transitioned to ZOOM. The issues with the trials prior to 2020 were not applicable.
When in-person courses returned there was still a need to use ZOOM. Eleven classrooms were outfitted with a Jabra PanaCast camera, a touchscreen monitor, and an updated computer. The students at the remote locations are able to view the entire classroom and see their peers.
COMPLETED PLANS
FY2021
- Eleven classrooms made “ZOOM ready”
FY2022
- Remaining classrooms made ZOOM ready
FY2023
- The new classrooms will be used to offer ZOOM and Polycom courses. New courses will be determined during scheduling meetings
FUTURE PLANS

INTERACTIVE VIDEO
KPI 15F, 16D, 16I, 18B
Currently, Shawnee utilizes Polycom Real Presence 700 video conferencing systems at all locations. Shawnee Community College has three classrooms at each location listed below.
- Ullin Main Campus
- Alexander County Extension Center
- Johnson County Extension Center
- Massac County Extension Center
- Union County Extension Center
Shawnee also has a cart system at each high school that can be used with Zoom or Polycom. Interactive video courses are taught simultaneously at more than one site. The instructor spends much of his/her time teaching “live” to students at the “instructor site” classroom. Students at “remote sites” participate in class activities through audio and video connections. Interactive video classes offered by SCC are designated as sections 90, 91, and 92 on the master schedule.
The Interactive video classrooms allow students to take classes from the main campus without traveling. The flexibility of the interactive video locations allows students to access educational pursuits. These classrooms also allow high school students to start their college education early by taking classes through Shawnee Community College.
The ITV rooms are equipped with video conferencing equipment, televisions in the front and back of the room, and a computer at the instructor podium. The rooms also have a document camera, instructor camera, and student camera.
