Course
Description:
Review of basic arithmetic concepts and
operations: addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and
percents; and metrics. Students are placed into this course by their ‘placement
scores’. In order to advance to the next
mathematics course (MAT 0041), students must complete this course with a grade
of “A” , or a comparable score on the exit exam for this
course.
Course
Objectives:
The student will
successfully demonstrate the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
whole numbers.
The student will
successfully demonstrate ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
fractions and mixed numbers.
The student successfully
demonstrate ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
decimals.
The student will
successfully demonstrate increasing ability to solve basic algebraic equations
and conversions involving percents, decimals, and metrics.

1. Attend class regularly and be on time.

Office Hours:
Office hours will be posted on the bulletin board outside the instructor’s office. Other times are possible by scheduling individual appointments at mutually convenient hours. Students are encouraged to consult regularly with the instructor regarding class progress or other topics of concern.
Inclement Weather

Become familiar with the inclement weather policy of Shawnee Community College. It will be read in all classes and posted in the cafeteria or student lounge.

Attendance
Policy:
Each student is expected to
attend all class meetings. The
student is expected to be on time and ready to begin class with the proper
materials at the beginning of each class period.

Fractions add, subtract, multiply, divide, and convert mixed fractions
Decimals add, subtract, multiply, divide, and change to fractions
Percents operations and understanding the language of percents
Metrics measurements, conversions, and terminology
*Algebra exposure to variables and equation manipulation
*Integers exposure and operations involving negative numbers
*May be included in coursework.
