The Student Support Services (S.S.S.) is a student oriented vehicle designed to enrich the academic, cultural and career lives of our students. We encourage every S.S.S. student to take full advantage of every opportunity our program offers. S.S.S. is your ticket to success at Shawnee Community College and beyond.
Who Participates?
The Student Support Services (S.S.S.) is
a student support services program funded through the U.S. Department of
Education TRIO program and provides services to eligible students.
Any
Shawnee Community College student who meets one or more of the following
guidelines may participate:
First Generation - Neither parent graduated
from a
four-year college or university.
Low Income - Taxable
income that does not exceed levels set by the federal government.
Physically Disabled - Learning or physical disabilities.
All S.S.S. students are provided personal attention.
Purpose of
Student Support Services
The S.S.S. is
designed to help Shawnee Community College students make good grades in college,
graduate and transfer to a four-year college or university. the S.S.S. will help
students have a positive and productive experience at Shawnee Community College.
Services available to students include:
- Academic Advisement
- Study Skills Workshop
- Tutors
- Career Assessment/Advisement
- Transfer Assistance
- Campus Visits
- Cultural Exposure
- Personal and Group Counseling
(Specifically for Non-Tradional and Single Parent students) - Guidance and Mentors
- Personal Skills Enhancement
- Accommodations for Disabled Students
Who Should
Participate?
A recent study
of students attending college revealed that students who participate in STUDENT
SUPPORT SERVICES activities are more successful in college than students who do
not participate in the services.
Former Shawnee Community College students who participated in
the Student Support Services discovered that S.S.S. will make resources
available to help assure success in their academic career, and personal lives.
Shawnee Community College
