Demand of college overwhelming?
College students typically encounter a great
deal of stress during their college years (i.e.,
academic, social, family, work, financial).
Sometimes the demands of college life can
become overwhelming and unmanageable.
Students may feel alone, isolated, helpless,
and even hopeless. These feeling can easily
disrupt academic performance and interfere
with their ability to be successful in their
classes.
Counseling services at Shawnee Community
College are confidential within ethical and
legal guidelines. Information does not become
part of the academic record of the
student.
Counseling services are free of charge to all Shawnee
students.
Personal counseling is a chance to learn
how to resolve personal problems or issues,
talk with someone who can give
feedback from a different perspective, and
learn new skills and ways to look at situations
to become more capable of solving
problems in the future.
Stressed out due to:
- Relationship difficulties
- Adjusting to college life
- Depression and anxiety
- Concerns about self-esteem
- Sexual concerns
- Problems with eating habits
- Worries about a friend
- Uncertainties about personal values/
beliefs
- Coping with traumatic events
- Death of a loved one
- Alcohol/substance abuse issues
- Reentry into school after loss of a job
- Abusive situations
