Youth Leadership
Academy 2006
8/11/06
Juniors
and seniors from Goreville, Anna-Jonesboro, Cobden, Vienna, Century, and
Meridian high schools recently attended the Sixth Annual Leadership Academy
at Shawnee Community College. Forty students attended the three-day Leadership
Academy to participate in team-building and problem-solving activities. Tony
Calabrese from SIU-C was the presenter. The youth also participated in hands-on
activities that promoted leadership qualities presented by the University
of Illinois Extension Center. The students received a certificate for a free
three-credit hour course at Shawnee Community College. "These
students received principles in motivation that they will be able to apply
to whatever they decide to do in life, whether at home, school or in the community," James
Darden, Director of Alternative Instruction said. The Academy was highlighted
with a luncheon at Giant City Lodge with guest speaker Rick Dawson from Carterville,
Illinois.
