Bound for Glory: Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad 1/28/08
Harriet Tubman will be telling the story of her Underground Rail Road adventures at Shawnee College on Wednesday, February 13 in the Educational Center. The free program will be presented at 9:30 am. The program is sponsored by the United States Forest Service, Shawnee National Forest and Shawnee Community College. Through African American spiritual "signal songs" historical re-enactor Marlene Rivero brings Harriet Tubman alive once again and shows the audience why she is known today as the "Moses of her people." Harriet Tubman was a woman with great strength, courage, faith and a steadfastness of purpose that has inspired Americans for over 140 years since, her last courageous trip to bring enslaved men, women and children north to freedom.
