SCC Student Spotlight for February, 2015
Shawnee Community College graduates several successful students that go on and accomplish their educational and professional goals. One of our graduates, Brandon C. Tanner of Tunnel Hill, Illinois has recently achieved his goals, both educationally and professionally.
Brandon graduated from Vienna High School in 2010. He then furthered his education at Shawnee Community College earning his Associates of Science degree in 2012. Tanner then finished his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree at Southern Illinois University of Carbondale in 2014. Brandon currently works as an Aviation Engineer Intern (E.I.T) for Hanson Professional Services, Inc.
SCC's Marketing Coordinator, Emily Elliott asked Brandon a series of questions about his journey at Shawnee Community College.
Why did you attend SCC?
I decided to attend SCC as it provided a great opportunity to allow myself to gain college course credit through the Dual Credit courses offered at my high school. This allowed for me to earn an Associate's degree at an expedited pace, as well as giving myself a jump start on my Bachelor's degree through the 2+2 program with SIUC. The course structure and partnership between SCC and SIUC provided for a seamless educational experience.
What did you like about SCC?
For myself, one of the main things that truly made an impact on my education and that I liked about SCC, were the instructors. Not only did they truly care about your education, but they also helped motivate you along the way to achieve both your educational and personal goals. With this help and motivation, I continued to graduate from SCC and move through the Bachelor's program at SIUC. This helped me to get where I am now.
How did SCC help you on your path to success at Hanson Professional Services, Inc.?
SCC gave me the knowledge and background in Engineering, which propelled myself through a Bachelor's degree and allowed for great leadership opportunities, which helped to build leadership traits needed in the professional world. SCC helped to lay the foundation for my engineering career through the knowledge and opportunities I was able to take part in while studying at SCC.
All of us at Shawnee Community College are very proud of Brandon, as we are of all our students. We are glad to have been a part of his success story.
