ANNA - The Illinois Community College Trustees Association is coordinating the 2010 Paul Simon Student Essay contest, which provides a $500 scholarship to the Illinois community college student with the winning essay titled "How My Community College Has Changed My Life."
Students currently enrolled at Shawnee Community College are eligible to participate in the 2010 Paul Simon Student Essay Contest. Each essay must be brief (less than 500 words), typed, and address the theme "How My Community College Has Changed My Life." Entrants may use "How My Community College Has Changed My Life" as the essay's title or create their own titles, provided they relate to the original theme.
The winner of SCC's contest will receive $100, and the runner up will receive $50.
Each entry will be judged on the basis of writing style, clarity of expression, relevancy to the topic, and correct grammar and punctuation.
Essay submissions should be submitted to Judy Strickland, Humanities chairperson, J1007, by Wednesday, March 17. At that time, a panel of judges will select one essay to advance to ICCTA's statewide student essay competition. At the state level, a final winner will be selected by ICCTA representatives. That winner will receive a $500 cash stipend for educational expenses during the fall 2010 semester. In addition, ICCTA will invite the winner to attend the association's annual awards banquet, June 4, 2010 in Springfield with mileage and banquet costs reimbursed by ICCTA.
