Shawnee Signs Five Softball Players

The Lady Saints Softball Team at Shawnee Community College recently signed five new players for the 2014-2015 season. All of us here at Shawnee Community College would like to congratulate the following ladies for signing on to our Lady Saints Softball Team:

  • Taylor Howard of Pinckneyville
  • Kendall Carter of Anna
  • Hayley Motsinger of Zeigler
  • Alyssa Chamness of Dongola
  • Whitney Keller of Dongola

Taylor Howard is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Theodore Howard of Pinckneyville. She is a right-handed pitcher and catcher for the Pinckneyville Panthers. Taylor pitched for the Pinckneyville Panthers her junior year and had 19 wins in the circle leading Pinckneyville to a share of the Mississippi River-to-River Conference Championship. Taylor also plays travel softball with the Southern Illinois Lady Bullets as a pitcher, catcher, and utility player.

Kendall Carter is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Jamie Carter of Anna. Kendall is currently a senior at Anna Jonesboro Community High School and is an infielder. She is also on the Local Honor Society, National Honor Society, Beta Club, Spanish Club, Student Council, Mu Alpha Theta, Volleyball Team, Bowling Team, Math Team, Softball Team, Scholar Athlete, and Homecoming Court.

Hayley Motsinger is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James & Devon Motsinger. Motsinger is currently a senior at Zeigler-Royalton High School and is a right-handed pitcher. Hayley played softball for the Down State Rippers before relocating to Australia where she played for the Queensland State Team for 2 years. After moving back to the states, Hayley plans to finish playing the rest of the season with the Rippers and then come to Shawnee Community College.

Alyssa Chamness is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Mike Chamness. Alyssa is currently a senior at Dongola High School and is a catcher. Chamness played for Dongola High School all 4 years and also played summer ball for the Southern Storm.

Whitney Keller is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Barry Keller. Whitney is currently a senior at Dongola High School and is a pitcher/shortstop. Keller has played softball for 4 years at Dongola High School. She is also active in FFA, Senior Beta Club, and on the Superintendent's Honor Roll.

Congrats to all these ladies and we're so lucky that you have decided to come play on our Lady Saints Softball Team. Coach Mike Fitzgerald stated, "These young ladies will be a great asset to our team and will fill in the shoes of our sophomores leaving."
