SPECIAL TOPICS IN SOCIAL SCIENCES CLASS NEW AT SCC

Special Topics in Social Sciences is designed to provide students with a greater understanding of the locations, artifacts, and technologies of American and World History. The class will be conducted in conjunction with trips to museums, historical sites, or other significant and relevant facilities.

Students can select to enroll for from 1 to 3 credit hours. Students will be required to attend two class meeting per credit hour. The cost for the class will is the standard $72 per credit hour plus a $200.00 lab fee which will help defray travel costs. Students will also cover the cost of exhibition fees and food while traveling.

All students should plan to attend the first class session Friday June 13th.The class will meet most Fridays in June and July, with classes Monday June 16th and Mondays July 14th and 21st. The class will meet in the atrium of the SCC main campus near Ullin before 8 a.m. and depart at 8:15 a.m. for New Harmony Indiana. In addition to touring the Rappite and Harmonist settlement at New Harmony, students will receive general orientation to the class and will review the final travel schedule for the summer.

A schedule for the semester is being developed. A final schedule will be available by May 23. In addition to the New Harmony trip the following sites may also be visited:

St. Louis Missouri: Art Museum, St. Louis Missouri Historical Society Museum, St. Louis Zoo, Holocaust Museum & Learning Center and the Museum of Transportation; Illinois: Cahokia Mounds, Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Field Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, Museum of Science and Industry; Tennessee: The National Civil Rights Museum, Mud Island River Park, Brooks Museum of Art and Fort Donaldson.
