Two SICCM Allied Health Programs at SCC in Fall 2014
Two SICCM Programs continue to accept applications for the Fall 2014 semester at Shawnee Community College.
The Health Information Technology (HIT) Degree and the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) Associate Degree in Applied Science Programs are offered at the community colleges through Southern Illinois Collegiate Common Market (SICCM).
The HIT program entails students to learn both the administrative and technical skills necessary to maintain components of health record systems consistent with the medical, administrative, ethical, legal, accreditation and regulatory requirements of the health care delivery system. HIT's have traditionally been employed in hospitals as well as managed care groups, home health care, physician group practices, hospices, long-term care, and ambulatory surgery.
The SICCM HIT program is accredited by the American Medical Association and the American Health Information Management Association. Graduates of this program will qualify to sit for the national certification examination. Successful completion of this exam confers the title of Registered Health Information Technician.
The MLT program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). Students will learn the technical skills necessary to perform routine studies in areas of hematology, serology, coagulation, clinical microbiology, clinical chemistry, blood banking, and urinalysis.
Applications for these programs may be obtained at the Main Campus at the Reception Desk or online at www.shawneecc.edu/academics/hit.asp and www.shawneecc.edu/academics/mlt.asp.
The MLT programs require testing. Individuals may make an appointment in testing with Mindy Ashby at 618-634-3316 or email@example.com.
