Shawnee Applauds Top Reader in Saints Read

Kylee Tapley, of Karnak IL, participated in the SAINTS READ Reading Program sponsored by Shawnee Community College Future Teachers and Athletics. Kylee read more than 230 books, which makes her the top reader in this year's program. A reading celebration was held Feb. 23 to honor all participants in the SAINTS READ program. Students and their families were invited to a VIP party that included prizes, pizza, pictures with Bernie and free popcorn and drink at the Homecoming Ballgame. Students and families were recognized at half-time of the ballgame. They enjoyed watching the ballgame in special reserved seating. Approximately 50 students from Cairo, Cypress, Simpson, Ullin, Tunnel Hill, Brookport, Goreville, Buncombe, Metropolis, Vienna, Grand Chain, Karnak and Anna took part in the SAINTS READ program. The students read a total of 1,518 books.
