Saints Read Program Visits Century
January 24, 2008
Shawnee Community College is proudly promoting a literacy
initiative in area schools. Students in grades K-6 are invited
to take part in this reading program. Children are keeping
logs of books read and submitting these reading logs to their
classroom teachers. If students meet their reading goal and
submit their logs to their teachers by Feb. 1, they will receive
an invitation to a SAINTS READ Celebration to be held at Shawnee
Community College Homecoming, Feb. 23. At the celebration
these young readers will enjoy a pizza party, have their picture
taken with Bernie-the SCC mascot, and have VIP seating at
the SCC Homecoming basketball game. Their names will go into
a drawing for many prizes, including autographed basketballs,
Saints shirts and jackets, and ½ off coupons for basketball
camp.
As a part of the SAINTS READ program SCC athletes, future
teachers and staff are visiting area students. They recently
enjoyed a visit to 2nd Grade at Century Elementary on Pajama
Day. Pictured are Mrs. Harp’s and Mrs. Reagan’s
2nd Grade classes, SCC athletes along with SCC staff: Baseball
Coach Greg Sheppard, Vice-President of Administration Dr.
Richard Massie and Instructor Sharon Walker.
