Prepare for Paraprofessional Certification at Shawnee Community College

Shawnee Community College offers paraprofessional preparation and testing for students interested in becoming certified paraprofessionals or instructional teacher's aides.

The eight week preparation course, EDU130/21, begins on March 22. This one credit hour course will meet on Tuesday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the main campus. Students will study math, reading for information, writing, and study skills.

This class prepares students who are planning to take the WorkKeys Exam for certification. Successful completion of the Workeys examination is part of the Illinois certification requirements as stated in the No Child Left Behind Act.

The WorkKeys examination will be given on March 2 at 9:00 a.m. and April 29 at 9:00 a.m. on the main campus. The cost of the exam is $60. Students must prepay and register two weeks in advance. Paraprofessional Test & Certification Prep EDU130 is also designed to review those who are preparing to take the Illinois Test of Basic Skills to enter a Teacher Education Program in Illinois.
