Shawnee Community College will be offering Paraprofessional Certification
Preparation this fall. EDU 130, Paraprofessional Testing Preparation Course
is a one-hour course, designed for individuals who are seeking an Instructional
Teachers Aide Certificate. Courses are offered on Tuesdays at the Main Campus,
from 5 to 7 p.m. (Instructor: Sharon Walker), and on Mondays at the Anna Extension
Center, from 5 to 7 p.m. (Instructor: Shelly Burgess). These courses begin
August 14 and end October 13. A second course will run October 16 through
December 15 at both locations. Registration is now open. Students may register
at any Shawnee Community College location.
New Federal NCLB (No Child Left Behind) laws require individuals to have 60
college credits or pass a state approved test in order to acquire an Instructional
Aide Certificate. Shawnee Community College offers the WorkKeys Test, a state
approved test that meets NCLB legislation. Four WorkKeys Test dates for this
fall are scheduled. These dates are: August 29, Sept. 12, Oct. 24 and Nov.
14. All tests begin at 8 a.m. The cost of the test is $50.00. Call Sharon
Walker, Education Program Coordinator, at 618-634-3235 for more information
on EDU 130 and WorkKeys Test.
