Paraprofessional Certification Offered at Shawnee

Shawnee Community College offers Paraprofessional Certification preparation regularly throughout the year. EDU 130, Paraprofessional Test Preparation Course, is designed for individuals who are seeking an Instructional Teachers Aide Certificate. The course EDU130 will be offered this spring. The first block begins Jan. 8 and ends March 2. The second block begins March 12 and ends May 11. The class will meet Tues. nights from 5 to 7 p.m. at the main campus.

New federal legislation (No Child Left Behind) requires individuals to have 60 college credits or pass a state approved test in order to acquire Instructional Aide Certification. Shawnee Community College offers the WorkKeys Test, a state approved test that meets federal requirements. Three WorkKeys Test dates have been scheduled for the spring. Testing dates are February 6, March 6 and April 24. All tests are held on the main campus and are scheduled from 8 am to noon. The cost of the test is $50. Students must pre-register and pre-pay two weeks in advance to confirm their registration.
