Massage Therapist Workshop

Shawnee Community College is sponsoring an upcoming continuing education seminar for massage therapists and physical therapists in June. The three-day Soft Tissue Release Workshop will earn each participant 21 Continuing Education Units and costs $350. Massage Therapists are required to obtain 24 CEUs every two years to renew their license.  The event is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., August 10, 11, 12 with an hour break for lunch. Stuart Taws will be the presenter, who is a Category A Provider for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Taws graduated from the London School of Sports Massage in 1990. In 1997, the Associated Bodyworkers and Massage Practitioners polled their readers with the question “Who has made the most difference in the Somatic Profession in the last ten years?” Taws won that award along with Dr. Ben Benjamin and Dr. Tiffany Field.

            Topics to be covered include how to reduce chronic pain conditions and how to get fast results with acute injuries. Taws usually markets this workshop for a price of $395; those attending the workshop at SCC will save $45. Participants are asked to bring their own lunch, a table if possible, and to wear loose clothing. There will not be disrobing at the workshop.
