SCC and the Massac County Youth Fair: A Winning Combination

When Clark Williams heard his ticket number called as the winner of a three credit hour certificate from Shawnee Community College, he was all smiles as he made his way to the stage area. As Dr. Tim Bellamey, SCC vice-president of instructional services, reached out to congratulate Williams, Williams shook his head and said "draw again." Although he won the drawing fair and square, Williams wanted to pass along the class certificate worth over $250 to someone else. "Maybe the next ticket drawn will belong to some who can use it to complete their degree, said Williams as he stepped aside.
So another ticket was pulled out and the number announced to the crowd. Robin Mizell of Metropolis was in the arena, having just finished helping with the children's Farm Follies events when he let out a whoop and ran to the stage. The certificate won't hang around the Mizell house very long. With just a few classes shy of his degree and he plans to use the certificate this fall.
Massac County Farm Bureau manager Tammie Obermark thanked SCC for their support at the fair, "This was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to connect with our local community college." SCC staff and student ambassadors provided free watermelon slices in addition to the credit hour give away. "It was a great event - we will be back next year," said Carolyn Kindle, Interim Vice President of Student and Administrative Services.
