SCC Saint Signs to the University of Florida
Shawnee Community College's Saints Men's Basketball starter Justin Leon signed a National Letter of Intent to University of Florida on June 8, 2015.
Leon stands 6 feet 8 inches tall and will have two years of eligibility after completing two very impressive seasons at Shawnee Community College.
Coach John Sparks, Head Men's Basketball Coach at SCC stated, "It's a great day when you see a young man like Justin Leon totally invest in the process over a two-year period and see it really pay off in the end. His work ethic, toughness, and his attitude allowed us to really coach him. I'm extremely proud of him and I know he will continue to grow at the University of Florida."
As a sophomore, Justin was named Honorable Mention Basketball I-All American after averaging a double-double with 21.5 points (16th most in the country) and 10.0 (20th most in the country) rebounds per game for SCC. Leon ended up being one of the only four players in Division I NJCAA to rank in the top 20 in points and rebounds. He shot a 50 percent clip from the field while scoring in double figures in all 30 games. In 20 of those games, he poured in 20+points.
The Conway, Arkansas native, scored a season-high 31 points twice and registered 16 double-doubles. He posted a season-high 19 rebounds in a single game. As a freshman at SCC, he led the team with an average of 15.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while shooting 56.3 percent from the field. He had nine games of 20+ points, four of which came consecutively when he went a combined 37-of-54 from the field for 69 percent shooting.
Prior to SCC, Leon was a dominant force in the paint for Conway High School and one of the most explosive athletes in the state of Arkansas. He earned 7A All-Conference and All-State honor averaging 13 points and 10 rebounds per game for Coach James Bates.
Coach Michael White, University of Florida, stated, "His athleticism and versatility, along with his size and toughness makes him a great fit athletically. He's a good scorer, rebounder, and defender who plays with an uncanny intensity level. In addition, his makeup as an intangible player and teammate make him even more valuable to us."
All of us here at SCC wish Justin Leon the best of luck as he begins his new journey at the University of Florida.
