SCC Celebrate Youth Conference

Massac County student Paige Jenkins completes the personal DNA extraction steps as part of the hands-on Biotechnology session during Celebrate Youth Conference hosted by Shawnee Community College. SCC instructors Sheryl Ribbing and Lori Armstrong guided students as they extracted their own DNA and discussed how genetics plays a part in everyday life. From crime scene investigation to self-defense techniques, nearly 350 area 7th grade students chose from over 20 self-esteem building, career exploration and environmental discovery sessions. The two-day event is sponsored by SCC and the University of Illinois Extension Center.
