SCC Sees Historical Enrollment
For over 40 years, district high school graduates have chosen Shawnee Community College to further their education. This year is certainly no exception. "For the first time in the college's history, 50% of recent graduates from our twelve district high schools are enrolled for the fall semester at SCC," Dr. Larry Peterson reported during the annual fall faculty meeting on Monday. In 2004, fewer than 25% of area high school class of 2004 seniors attended SCC. "Our district high schools are the foundation of our enrollment," Peterson added. Registration closes on Wednesday, the first day of instruction.
With semester instruction just a day away, student services staff members at the main campus and extension centers continue to guide students through the registration process. Students are encouraged to take advantage of SCC programs including no-cost peer and professional tutoring. Monica Brahler, LCSW, serves as the college student counselor, providing quality professional personal counseling to students.
Students can choose from vocational certificates designed to prepare them for immediate employment to degree plans designed to make the most of transferring to a university. Classes are available through traditional classroom settings, interactive video, and online.
