Health Screenings Available at SCC April 5

Health and wellness related vendors from throughout the area will offer health screenings and therapy options as part of Shawnee Community College's Health and Wellness Fair.


Shawnee Community College is hosting a free Health and Wellness Fair on Wednesday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the main campus near Ullin.
Students, faculty, staff and members of the community are invited to attend. Businesses and individuals interested in reserving table space should contact Beth Darden at 618-634-3224 or by email at bethda@shawneecc.edu by March 22.
Southern Seven Health Department will offer cholesterol screenings for $20. Fasting prior to testing is recommended.
SSHD will also conduct breast and cervical cancer screenings.

Smokeless Plus of Cape Girardeau will conduct auricular laser therapy to help stop smoking or for weight loss. Reservations should be made by calling Smokeless Plus at 573-587-9384. The SCC massage therapy students will conduct 5 minute seated massages for $2.00 and the American Heart Association will offer free blood pressure checks. Additionally, Anitta Short of A Therapeutic Touch will offer free eyebrow waxing, foot massages, paraffin hand dips and an introduction to energy drinks and bars. Debbie Starnes of Nature's Sunshine will conduct free muscle response testing demonstrations. Dixon Chiropractic perform free thermo neck scans and information.

Other participants include State Farm Insurance; U of I Extension; Guardian Family Service; Thor's Gym; Marsha Hayes, Sam's Club, SCC Community Education, Family Counseling; Egyptian Area Agency on Aging; Jonesboro Rehab and Health Care Center; and Visiting Nurses Association.
Additionally, County Clerks from all district counties will be available for voter registration.
The SCC Wellness Program is hosting the event. This program is dedicated to educating, motivating, and empowering SCC employees to make healthy lifestyle choices that improve their overall quality of life.
