SCC Enrollment Numbers Show Record Increases
January 24, 2008
The Shawnee Community College enrollment numbers for spring semester are usually
even with the fall semester, but not this time. Shawnee’s enrollment has
jumped in credit hours and in the number of students served compared to spring
2007.
The college is experiencing a record increase in headcount of 336 students,
or 16 percent, and an increase in credit hours of 3,392, or 17 percent.
College President Larry Peterson is thrilled to see the numbers increasing in
his first semester overseeing the college. “Everyone at the college is
excited about the numbers,” Peterson said. “These numbers are a
testament to the college’s access, opportunity and academic excellence.”
While the reason for growth is difficult to pin point, the college’s marketing
and recruitment offices teamed together by directly contacting students who
attended during the fall semester, but had not registered for spring before
the holiday break. The college is also encouraging students to attain registration
information online, to receive the most up-to-date information and reduce errors.
Students may still register for late start classes, which begin February 11.
