Saints Baseball and Lady Saints Softball Finish Season 5/5/08
The baseball and softball teams at Shawnee Community College have both had rain-filled seasons, creating many obstacles. With the weather uncooperative and injuries here and there, both teams won games and improved as the season went on. Next season looks to be even better with a solid batch of new recruits.
Athletic Director Mike Fitzgerald said he thought the Lady Saints would do well at the regional tournament.
"Congratulations to the Lady Saints softball team who swept two games from Spoon River to advance to the Region 24 playoffs last Friday." SCC lost to Parkland at Eastern Illinois University. The Lady Saints finished the season 23-17 before the regional tournament games.
"I'd also like to congratulate the boys who swept a double header from Lewis & Clark that will move us up two or three spots in the Regional rankings," Fitzgerald said.
The baseball team finished the season with a 16-18 record and did not advance to the regional competition.
"Thanks to all who supported the baseball and softball teams this spring," Fitzgerald said.
