"Shawnee Community College is committed to helping our nation's heroes in any way that we can," said Dr. Larry Peterson, president of Shawnee Community College. "Our service men and women have given so much for our freedom, we must find ways to give back."
A television ad begins this weekend featuring a Shawnee Community College student, Mike Dotson, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Iraq.
"Shawnee Community College has done everything possible to make my transition back into the classroom smooth," Dotson said. "After my service in the Marine Corps was completed, I had to make a decision about my future. I am glad I chose the direction that I did."
Dotson is an automotive technology student. The 30-second ad that will air on the three local network stations, will feature Dotson in his Marine Corps dress blues proudly saying, "I am Shawnee Community College."
Peterson noted that the ad highlights the sacrifice of service men and women and the patriotism of the college.
"Our service men and women deserve our best and they will receive it at Shawnee Community College," Peterson said. "We are proud to be Americans, and thankful to the individuals and their families who have sacrificed so much to defend our nation."
