Shawnee College Accepts $50,000 Donation from Alumni

Ed and Betty Smith announced a personal donation of $50,000 to Shawnee Community College to provide financial assistance to high school graduates throughout the college district who show tremendous leadership skills and academic excellence.
The donation was made during an event titled Shawnee United, an invitation to the future of Shawnee Community College.
"I can't think of a greater way to initiate an effort to unite our college district than to accept this remarkable contribution from Ed and Betty Smith," said Dr. Larry Peterson, President of Shawnee Community College.
"They are to be commended for their dedication, leadership and financial commitment to SCC."
The donation will fund a full scholarship plus $500 living expenses each semester to one student per year. In return for the full ride, students will be expected to complete 30 hours of volunteer work per semester.
