Skilled hair stylists are in great demand, with unlimited opportunities throughout our region and beyond. Boasting a 100% state board examination pass rate, the Shawnee Community College cosmetology program prepares students in a hands-on, true-to-life salon environment.
Combined with class lectures, students obtain the basic knowledge and skills compatible with the Illinois Department and Education guidelines for training license cosmetologists. Students can choose from one-year cosmetology certification, a two-year associate of applied science in cosmetology technology degree, or advance to the cosmetology instructor training certificate program.
Students provide salon services to public patrons from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. Chemical services including perms and coloring must be started by 12:30 p.m. The 20 station lab is located on the main campus near Ullin. After completing initial training, the students offer a variety of salon services including cuts and perms, under the supervision of cosmetology teachers. Need more than a cut and perm? They also offer color, waxing, manicures and much more. A complete cosmetology service price list is available at www.shawneecc.edu. Senior citizens and students qualify for special discounts.
