Spring
Enrollment Numbers Finalized
Final enrollment numbers for Spring 2006 were
announced at the July Board of Trustees Meeting. The total number of students
increased 5.6 percent compared to the end of the Spring 2005 semester. The
administration at Shawnee Community College was pleased with this outcome.
"Every time we have an increase in enrollment, it reaffirms what the
college is all about: serving students," said Dr. Larry Choate, SCC President.
Announcements:
Scholarship Dinner Planned
The first scholarship dinner is planned for Thursday, August 3. This event
will honor scholarship recipients and allow new students to visit the campus
before they begin classes.
Adult Education Program
The Adult Education program was awarded additional funds by ICCB this year,
due to the increase of performance in the program.
First Year Kidz College Off to a Good Start
Kidz College began this week, with 40 students registered. Kidz College is
designed to enhance learning in areas of interest for all students who have
completed 1st-4th grade within the Shawnee College district. This summer the
college is focusing on five areas of interest: crafts, fitness, computers,
Native American studies and the martial arts. Kidz College is planning to
extend throughout the academic year.
Foundation Update
The annual golf scramble was held in June, with more than 80 participants.
The Foundation was able to raise $7,200 toward student scholarships.
Action Items Approved by the Board of Trustees:
- Approved the FY2007 budget.
- Approved the prevailing wage rates.
- Approved bid for new automotive shop doors.
- Approved the bid for paving truck driving
range.
- Approved the solicitation of bids for a 14-passenger
bus.
Personnel Items Approved by the Board of
Trustees:
- Approved the ratification of employment of
part-time faculty/staff for spring and summer semesters 2006.
- Approved the contract for security services.
- Approved the employment of Karen Houston
as Library Clerk.
- Approved the employment of Kylie Price-Stalides
as English instructor.
