SCC Homecoming Next Week
Students, faculty and staff at
Shawnee Community College are gearing up for the Homecoming week festivities
beginning Feb. 21. Throughout the week, SCC Saints will be encouraged to show
their school spirit by participating in dress up days, including pajama day
and decade day. Thursday evening will be Kid's Night at the Saints basketball
game against West Kentucky Community and Technical College. The week will
end with the homecoming games Saturday against Lincoln Land, beginning at
1 p.m. Also on campus Saturday, SCC will be hosting a TRIO day on campus from
10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with activities including workshops, speakers and focus
groups. The homecoming dance will be at 7 p.m., Saturday night. Sunday, Feb.
26 will be College Goal Sunday, helping potential and current students fill
out their FAFSA with the assistance of financial aid representatives beginning
at 2 p.m.
Announcements:
Commencement Speaker Announced
Geoffrey Obrzut, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Illinois Community
College Board, will be the 2006 Commencement ceremony speaker.
SCC Blood Drive Successful
Student Senate sponsored a Red Cross Blood Drive Feb. 1. Of the 51 attempted
donors, 38 were able to give, with 13 being first-time donors.
Digital Divide Grant Approved
SCC was awarded $34,488 in a Digital Divide Grant to provide computer access
to senior citizens. The grant is designed to help the elderly learn about
health and wellness issues.
Foundation Update
Plans are under way for the annual Dinner/Auction scheduled for March 11.

- Approved the contract extensions
for lawn mowing services.
- Approved the bid for the replacement
of five roof-top units.
- Approved the bid to replace
security cameras in buildings H, I, J.
- Approved the request for bids
on college banking services.
- Approved the replacement of
emergency power generator
Personnel Items Approved by
the Board of Trustees:
- The ratification of employment
of part-time faculty and staff for the spring 2006 semester.
- The employment of Gwen Watts
as Cairo Extension Center Director/Advisor.
- The employment of Tracey Johnson
as Librarian.
- The employment of Lura L. Blankenship
as Executive Secretary II.
- The resignation of Richard Diefenbach
as full-time faculty member, effective July 28, 2006.
