SCC Begins New Year
When students arrive on Monday, August 18, for the first day of fall 2008 semester classes, SCC will mark the beginning of their 39th academic year. Registration for fall semester classes is on-going and will continue through Monday, August 18. Both returning and new students should make advisement and registration arrangements as soon as possible. Students are encouraged to enroll early to ensure the classes they want are available.
Students can register at the main campus and extension centers during regular college hours, Monday through Friday, 7:45 am to 4:15 pm and additionally until 7 p.m. on August 12, 13, 14, and 18. New this year, students can register on Saturday, August 16 from 8 a.m. to noon. The college's administrative offices will be closed on Monday, September 1 in honor of Labor Day.
The SCC Bookstore will be open during regular college hours and additionally until 7 p.m. on August 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20 and 21. As an added convenience to students, the SCC Bookstore will be open on Saturday, August 16 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A complete list of required textbooks and pricing information is located on the college's website at

Students must make financial arrangements to secure spots in classes and save their seat. Payment options include securing financial aid such as scholarships, grant funding or through other funding agencies; self-pay through the online e-cashier; or pay in full at the bursar's office with cash, check or credit card. Students must secure all financial aid or personal payments by Thursday, August 7 to remain enrolled in the fall semester. All registration after Thursday, August 7 must be paid or financial aid secured within 24 hours or the student will be withdrawn from fall classes.
SCC recommends that students and parents take advantage of Saints Alert. The intent of this service is to notify individuals by e-mail or text message on their cell phones of campus closures for weather and other emergencies. All users who sign up for this service will receive announcements regarding campus closures for weather and other emergencies, test messages to validate the service is working, and notifications when your account is about to expire. Saints Place housing options are still available for the fall semester. Applications are available online at www.shawneecc.edu/student_services/student_housing.asp or call Jeff Wiggs at 618-634-3349 for more information or to request a rental application contract.
SCC classes are offered through traditional classroom settings, interactive video, and via the Internet. Appointments for registration are not required but recommended according to Dee Blakley, Director of Admissions. Students can complete an enrollment form prior to meeting with an advisor to speed up the enrollment process. Students who meet certain criteria can enroll online using the Saints Online website. Students should obtain SCC ID cards at the front desk. These ID cards double as SCC library cards.
When meeting with SCC advisors, students can expect guidance in planning their program of study and class schedules. Students can not be admitted into a curriculum before he or she has completed placement testing or advised.
