Marion, Ill. - An articulation agreement signed on Aug. 31 by officials from McKendree University and three southern Illinois community colleges significantly increases educational opportunities for nursing students throughout the region.
McKendree now offers dual enrollment, a guaranteed tuition rate, and the acceptance and application of credits to nursing students at Shawnee Community College.
"This partnership enables nursing students throughout southern Illinois to advance their education and careers by ensuring a seamless transition into our BSN program." said Dr. James Dennis, president of McKendree University.
According to Dr. Richelle Rennegarbe, associate professor and chair of the nursing division, "While McKendree University has partnered to offer courses to associate degree graduates of Shawnee Community College, Southeastern Illinois College and John A. Logan College in the past, this articulation agreement enhances opportunities for graduates of these programs."
McKendree University will guarantee its tuition rate for five years, based on continuous enrollment. Qualified students who maintain a minimum 3.25 grade point average while pursuing their Associate in Applied Science degree in nursing will be allowed to enroll concurrently in coursework toward a Bachelor of Science degree at McKendree University. Finally, nursing students completing the specific coursework outlined in the agreement in their respective associate degree programs will be assured of transfer of coursework into McKendree's BSN program.
The university has had a similar articulation agreement with the statewide Kentucky Community and Technical College System since 2009. Articulation agreements are being finalized with three other community colleges in southern Illinois.
McKendree University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Its bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing are also accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
