SCC, SMART Receive Grant
A two-year partnership between Shawnee
Community College and Southern Most Area Rural Transportation will continue
with the help of a federal grant in the amount of $238,000. SMART has
matched the federal grant to make $476,000 total. The purpose of this
grant is to provide low-cost public transportation to community members
seeking education and training. "This is an excellent opportunity
for the students of SCC to access transportation to the main campus
as well as college extension centers at a very affordable price,"
SCC President Dr. Larry Choate said.
SCC students will be able to call 24 hours
in advance and have a ride to class. Due to the collaboration, student
prices will be reduced to a $2 per day or $10 per week pass of unlimited
rides to SCC campuses. Students can also purchase $40 per month or $120
per semester passes. These passes will be for sale through the SCC Bookstore
and can be charged to student's Pell accounts. Bus passes are not transferable.
