Fish Tales at SCC Campus
Shawnee Community College is once again
hosting Fish Tales, a summer camp sponsored in part by the United States
Forestry Department throughout the month of June. Students from various
schools in the SCC district will learn how to put worms on a hook, cast
a fishing rod and make sure the fish is returned to its natural habitat.
Fish tales has three main objectives: to provide a recreational opportunity
for these children by teaching them how to fish, use fishing as a springboard
to teach conservation education and land stewardship principles, and
to give children a positive experience they will keep for the rest of
their lives.
Assisting with the success of the annual
summer event are the University of Illinois Extension, U.S. Fish and
Wildlife-Cypress Creek, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Timberline
Fisheries, SIU Carbondale-Saluki Kid's Academy, Wal-Mart, Head Start,
Reaching for Kids and Youth of Massac County, Inc., Illinois Coalition
for Community Services and SIDEZ.
