Local Artist on Display

Local Artist Jessica Forys of Nashville, IL has several paintings hanging in the Shawnee Community College Anna Extension Center until July 25.

A recent graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, Jessica has displayed several of her "encaustic" paintings at SCC. Encaustic painting is basically painting with wax. In this style, artists use melted wax, resin and pigments to fuse a continuous layer and apply it to support with heat. Jessica said that this surface allows her to capture the quality of memory by creating veils of color and transparency.

"My recent work conveys a theme of memories as fragments, the process by which we recall experiences," Jessica said. "I want the viewers to lose themselves in the mood of each piece."
