Adult Ed Grant from SIDEZ

Southernmost Illinois Delta Empowerment Zone has awarded Shawnee Community College Adult Education Program a Youth Leadership Grant in the amount of $2830. SCC will offer a youth leadership academy August 1, 2, and 3, 2005.

The program is designed for students entering their junior and senior years during the 2005-2006 academic years. This will be the 5th consecutive year that SCC has offered the leadership academy.

The plan for the academy is to focus on teamwork, character and ethical leadership. Each day will focus on one of the areas. The program will be designed around the leadership and core values initiative of the Illinois Community College system.

The schedule for the academy will be 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Each day will begin with a keynote session followed by breakout sessions focusing on the daily theme. Following the breakout sessions, the students will participate in focus group activities that will allow them to discuss issues of importance to the students their schools, and their community. On the final day, participants will meet at Grand Chain Lodge for a session with prominent community leaders.
