The Work Certified Program
at SCC
Shawnee Community College, in cooperation with Shawnee
Development, is hosting a Work Certified Program workshop, part of a national
work readiness initiative, beginning April 17 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at
the main campus near Ullin. The Work Certified program was designed based
on information gathered from employer focus groups. Employers throughout
the region are looking for stronger work ethics and soft skills in potential
employees. The Work Certified program is designed to strengthen those skills.
The Work Certified program is a three-week training workshop to enhance
overall general business knowledge, acquire employability skills, strengthen
business writing techniques and increase work maturity aptitude of prospective
employees.
The program is provided at no cost to WIA eligible participants with mileage,
childcare reimbursement and transportation available. Upon completion
of the course, participants will be Work Certified.
The Work Certified program is sponsored by a grant from the Department of
Commerce and Economic Opportunity as part of Governor Blagojevich's Opportunity
Returns Initiative, administered by The Southern 14 Workforce Investment
Board and Shawnee Development Council.
