Celtic Band Exorna
Returns To SCC March 24
SCC welcomes back Exorna, an authentic and energetic
Celtic trio from Ireland, England and the United States. The group will
be performing at the main campus on Friday, March 24. A free performance
will take place at 1 p.m. in the Educational Center. A special evening performance
will begin at 7 p.m. There is a $5 admission fee for the evening performance.
Exorna performances will feature flashy reels and jigs from Forrest Harris
on fiddle, banjo and accordion, along with rich vocals and fiery rhythm
from Victor McMullan on bodhran, spoons, bones and snare. Rounding out the
trio is Mark Butler on guitar.
Exorna is booked regularly for a variety of events, occasions and venues,
including festivals, pubs, restaurants and private parties. With a wide
variety of traditional music from lively jigs and reels of Ireland and Scotland
to traditional Irish pub songs and with stops in England and the United
States along the way, Exorna has something for every music lover.
Victor McMullan was born and raised in County Derry, Northern Ireland and
brings to the band traditional music and stories which he learned in his
youth. Mark Butler hails from Yorkshire in the north of England. Mark combines
contemporary musical influences with tradition to produce a unique and dynamic
Celtic guitar style. In his Yorkshire brogue, Mark is at home with Celtic
songs. Forrest Harris is the only Yank' in the group, growing up from the
strip mine spoils of rural Knox County, Illinois. He is known for his aggressive
fiddle style and instrumental versatility. His playing explores the relationship
between the fiddle styles of Scotland, Ulster and Appalachia.
The SCC Cafeteria will be open from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for fish-fry dinners
at an additional cost of $5.50. For ticket information for the upcoming
performances at Shawnee Community College, contact Gae Morris, Special Events
Coordinator at 618-634-3323 or by email at gaem@shawneecc.edu.
