Basketball Season Comes to Close

Wednesday morning the MidWest Athletic Conference All-Conference nominations came out and three Saints made the list. Edwin Torres, Marlon Robinson, and Martavious Williams were selected to the team. The MWAC coaches voted Martavious Williams to the 2nd Team All Conference while Edwin Torres and Marlon Robinson received Honorable Mention.

Friday morning the All Region 24 selections were announced and Shawnee had two players that made the cut. Edwin Torres and Martavious Williams were two of twelve selected to the team.
Edwin led the conference in assist and steals and is one of the most exciting players in the conference.

Edwin averaged 10.6ppg 2.1rpg 7.4apg and 3.3spg. He averaged 11.1ppg 8.0apg and 3.68spg in conference play. Edwin's highlights include one triple double and four games over 20 points. He finished in the top 10 in the nation in assist & steals with season highs of 23 points 16 assist and 11 steals.
Marlon led the MWAC in dunks & blocks this season with 75 blocks and nearly 20 dunks this season. He averaged 7.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.6 spg, & 2.7 bpg. He had a season high with 9 blocks and 4 dunks in one game.

Williams averaged 17.6ppg 7.4rpg 2.1apg 2.6spg and 18.5ppg 8.4rpg in conference play. Martavious highlights included 8 double doubles, 13 games scored over 20 points, with season highs of 32 points (twice), 14 rebounds, 10 assist and 9 steals. He finished in the top three in scoring and rebounding in the MWAC.

The men's basketball team concludes their season with a tough loss vs. John Wood Community College in the first round of the Region 24 tourney. The Saints finish the season with a record of 14-17. "On behalf of all the players and coaches we want to thank the students, faculty, staff, and the community for all of your support," Coach John Sparks said. "I'm sure our attendance significantly increased again this season thank in part to senior citizen night, kid night, homecoming and other events. We will look to continue these events and add some additional ones next season."

The Lady Saints season also ended this week with a 48 - 44 loss to Parkland College. It was a hard fought defensive struggle and was not decided until the last four seconds of the game. "I wanted to say thank you for all the support this year," Coach Mike Ulen said. "The young ladies played their hearts out and worked very hard for the team and the college."
