Nia Dancers Perform
at SCC
In
honor of Black History Month, The Nia Dancers will be performing at
Shawnee Community College from 12 to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22. The
Nia Dancers have been coming to SCC for 11 years now. Originating in
Paducah, KY, the group was created to inspire young ladies in an area
church to get involved in a satisfying activity. They got their name
from the Swahili word for "purpose." The men involved in this
performance are called the "Nia Heroes" and play percussion.
Their performance in the SCC Cafeteria will be free and is open to the
public.
