Shawnee Lady Saints
Fall Short
SCC Lady Saints lost a hard one to the Parkland College
Lady Cobras, 71-75, at SCC on Saturday, January 28. Shawnee was celebrating
Senior Citizen Day with free popcorn and giveaways for our senior spectators.
The teams were tied 36 at half time, but in second half the Lady Saints
had some critical turnovers. In the final minutes of the game, Parkland
hit their foul shots, which put the Lady Saints behind even more. Parkland
had 19 foul shots and Lady Saints had 1. Lady Saints top scorers were freshman
guards Tiffany Scales with 15 points and Kayla Cooper with 13 points. Sophomore
guard Sherelle Wells and sophomore center Shaleem Griffin both scored 12
points each.
"The game was tied at half time and was a right down to the second
game. One of the best games the Lady Saints have played all year,"
commented Coach Ulen.
SCC Lady Saints fell to the Lewis and Clark Lady Trailblazers, 47-64, at
SCC on Wednesday, February 1. First half Lady Saints were down by 4 with
a score of 26-30. During the second half, the injury-plagued Lady Saints
could not overcome the opposition.
"We played really well first half, but in the second half freshman
guards Brittany Butler and Tiffany Scales both got hurt and were out of
the game," Coach Ulen commented after the game.
Key players for the Lady Saints were sophomore center Shaleem Griffin and
sophomore guard Sherelle Wells, both with 11 points. Freshman guard Kayla
Cooper bagged 7 and freshman forward Cassandria Jenkins contributed 6.
The Lady Saints' next home game will be at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 20 against
Robert Morris.
