Beginner Yoga
and Pilates at SCC this Spring
As part of the expanded community education courses
this spring, Shawnee Community College is offering Beginner Yoga and Pilates
classes at the main campus near Ullin.
Beginner Yoga classes start the week of February 6. Participants will learn
and practice beginning yoga postures for releasing tension while increasing
strength and flexibility. Students need to bring a yoga mat. Additional
props are optional. One session (PE 0121 01) will take place noon to 1 p.m.,
Mondays for twelve sessions, beginning Monday, February 6 and concluding
on Monday, May 8. No classes will be held on official college holidays,
February 20, March 6, and on April 3.
A second Beginning Yoga (PE 0121 20) section will be offered 4:30 to 5:30
p.m., Wednesdays for twelve sessions beginning Wednesday, February 8 and
concluding Wednesday, May 10. No classes will be held on March 8 and on
April 5. Participants may enroll in either class section or both classes
for maximum benefit. The cost of one class is $27.50 for twelve sessions
and students earn .5 credit hour. Class size is limited.
Beginning Pilates (PE 123 01) will be offered Thursdays from 11 a.m. to
noon for twelve sessions beginning on Thursday, February 9 and concluding
Thursday, May 11. No classes will be held on March 9 and on April 6. Pilates
exercise is a low-impact form of exercise developed and practiced to stretch,
strengthen, tone, and align the body, without excess tension and strain
on the joints. The course will focus on creating toned abdominals and a
strong lower body. Participants must have a yoga or Pilates mat. Additional
props are optional. The cost of one class is $27.50 for twelve sessions
and students earn .5 credit hour. Class size is limited.
Tuition is waived for participants age 60 and older. No textbook is required.
