Computer Students Learn Hands-On
Several
SCC computer science students have been working hard this week to earn
a brand new computer. Computer Science Instructor Jerry Ainsworth came
up with the idea to teach his students how a computer works by building
one from scratch. He bought the materials out of his own pocket and
told the students they will be assembling the entire computer, both
hardware and software, on their own.
In the past, students in COM 244
were allowed to work on a volunteer individual's home computer to better
understand how it operates. Ainsworth decided building one would be
the best way to teach them. As a bonus to the knowledge these students
have gained, Ainsworth will be giving the finished product to the student
with the highest GPA at the end of the semester.
