Volleyball Team Aims High
The Shawnee Community
College Lady Saints volleyball team began the season with a winning
record of 8-4 after the first week of play. During the first match against
John Wood, freshman Mallory Maschhoff, of Casey, IL, had 19 assists
and 8 service ace attempts. Vanessa Beyers of Salem, IL, delivered 15
kills and teammate Kacie Cartwright of Scott City, MO, hit 8 kills.
The Lady Saints took the match 30-17, 30-20, and 30-15.
The Lady Saints participated
in the McKendree Tournament Labor Day weekend, coming in 2nd place overall.
SCC was able to triumph over St. Louis Community College at Meramec
30-24, 30-16; Oakton, 30-28, 30-27; South Suburban, 30-8, 30-15; Waubonsee,
30-12, 30-3; Lincoln Land, 30-18, 30-23; and McKendree College, 30-15,
30-19; losing only to Vincennes, 15-30, 27-30. The Lady Saints averaged
28 kills, 9 service aces and 25 digs per game in the tournament.
The Lady Saints will
play their first home game of the season September 10 at 9 a.m. in the
SCC Quad. The SCC Quad Tournament includes Lincoln Land, Lewis and Clark
and Springfield.
